EGBUNIKE BECOMES SOUTHERN AREA CHAMPION ON TV SHOW

30 year old Kingsley "Obi" Egbunike has become Southern Area Super Welterweight Champion following a victory over Jordan Dujon on the Wasserman Channel 5 show at York Hall on 12th April.

2 years prior to the bout Dujon had triumphed 58-56 in a 6 round contest but a lot had changed since the original bout and loss.

Egbunike had teamed up with leading boxing manager  Steve Goodwin who has now guided 59 boxers to titles. When signing with the Goodwin team Steve told Obi that his achievements did match his talents and he would get him title opportunities and the motivation for Obi that had been lacking throughout his career.

Four months after signing and an English title opportunity live on Sky Sports was obtained against champion Lee Cutler. Obi put up a tremendous fight but went down in a close decision on the judges' scorecards.

Goodwin now obtained an opportunity at Southern Area level and a rematch with old for Dujon.  This time Goodwin and trainer Arron Woodstock knew the result would be different. Obi now had the experience of 10 round Championship boxing and had a full training camp.

The fight started with a very tight and close first round. The fight remained competitive but Obi was always doing enough to keep ahead in the fight. When referee Kieran McCann's  scorecard of 96-94 was announced it was in line with what everyone at ringside felt. Obi had won his first title and was delighted with this first title "Thank you for delivering everything you promised" he said to Goodwin after the fight.

As Goodwin said "Obi this isn't the end it is just the start!
