26 Year old Zak Chelli became Goodwin Boxing’s 56th Champion when winning the British and Commonwealth Super Middleweight title when comprehensively defeating the then champion Jack Cullen to win the prestigious belts.
This was Chelli’s second fight since teaming up with leading management group Goodwin Boxing and new head coach Barry O’Connell.
Whilst the styles did not gel to make it the greatest of spectacles, Chelli was fully effective and was always ahead on all cards throughout the contest.
Steve Goodwin said “I am so delighted for Zak and Barry and this is just the beginning. We will be having discussions about a defence of the title and welcome a bout with mandatory challenger Callum Simpson.”
Barry O’Connell was delighted with his charge “Zak only showed 40% of what he is capable of in this fight and cannot wait for the next one as we build up and up.”
“It is a dream to win this title” said Zak “But it is just the beginning of a New Era and hopefully I can repay the faith shown to me and progress to titles of an even higher level in due course.”
Final word was from Goodwin “Whether it be Southern Area, English, Commonwealth, International titles, British and World champions, our boxers have won them all. We are delighted Zak showed faith in our track record and our promises and we have once again fulfilled the opportunities we promised.”
