What does the future of boxing look like? How exciting would it be to see it collaborate with the present? Goodwin Boxing, always on the forefront of innovation in boxing promotion, are excited to bring you this vision on Saturday June 11th, where for the first time in London a show is run that brings fans both a glimpse of amateur stars from Guildford City Boxing Club and the opportunity to watch top professional talent at the same day, with the same ticket. On Saturday 11th June, we bring you The Future 1 and GB Fight Series 5, all from York Hall.
Guildford City Boxing Club, with the support of England Boxing, have been at the forefront of amateur boxing for many years, with a production line of top talent and coaches providing upcoming boxers a home to harness their talents and dreams. In teaming up with Goodwin Boxing and providing the talent to take part in The Future 1, it gives their young men and ladies an opportunity to experience the excitement of performing in a professional environment in front of a packed crowd, while remaining a part of the amateur code.
The events will be run on the same day, at the same venue, under the separate auspices of both England Boxing (The Future 1) and the British Boxing Board of Control (GB Fight Series 5). The codes of amateur and professional boxing will each be respected, with the opportunity for fans to come and experience a whole day of the current and upcoming talents in British boxing. Steve Goodwin, Head of Goodwin Boxing, explained why this is such an exciting step:
“We have always tried to build great connections with good people and try to provide opportunities at Goodwin Boxing. This is a chance for us to support a brilliant amateur club in Guildford City, while also giving fans the chance to get real value for money from the day. This hasn’t been done before in London and we are really thankful to both England Boxing and the British Boxing Board of Control for getting on board with it. We look forward to helping the next generation of talent get a taste of a professional environment, while being able to retain their status in the amateur sport.”
Ben Harmsworth Chairman of Guildford City Amateur Boxing Club & also a BBBofC Board Inspector goes on to say “Working as I do in both amateur & professional boxing, I have long thought that the sport would benefit from more collaboration between the two codes. Success in amateur boxing requires levels of dedication & commitment akin to that of professional participants in other sports. "The Future" is a big addition to the boxing scene which will provide amateur boxers & officials with an exciting platform at the iconic York Hall & allow supporters an early glimpse of the stars of tomorrow. We are very grateful to Goodwin Boxing for recognising, supporting & realising this concept."
In building the collaboration, Goodwin Boxing had a clear aim of ensuring that Guildford City Boxing Club had both an opportunity for boxers to experience a professional setup, but also would be financially benefitting. With setup and show cost mostly covered by Goodwin Boxing and the opportunity to bring in sponsors, it gives a platform without the risk.
“We were always keen to make sure that the amateur side of the sport feel equal in this, both Guildford City and England Boxing” said Steve. “It was important to give them the opportunity to benefit financially from the show and we hope that our brand will give them the chance to do that.”
Tickets for the two shows are available separately or, for those who wish to experience the historical whole day, a combined ticket can be purchased to see both the amateur stars of Guildford City and the professionals of Goodwin Boxing. The amateur show will run from 12pm on Saturday June 11th through until 3.30pm, The venue is cleared then with the professional show commencing from 5pm onwards. Tickets will be available from boxers as well as Guildford City Boxing Club and Goodwin Boxing directly. We look forward to welcoming you to what will be a ground-breaking day and night of amateur and professional boxing.
